Review: THE UNQUIET, Original Theatre - Online
Audio media has exploded in recent years, with podcasts and audio series coming out of our eyes and ears. According to last year’s Spotify Wrapped, this reviewer clocked up nearly 20,000 minutes of podcast listening, so it’s with some confidence that we’d posit you’d be hard-pressed to find a more immersive and well-produced story-telling series than The Unquiet Podcast: Stories for Dark Nights.
For the first episode in this cutting edge audio series, award-winning composer Max Pappenheim, along with Philip Franks, adapts E Nesbit’s The Mass for the Dead – a story of haunting heartbreak and chilling portents. A perfect choice to show off Pappenheim’s composing skills, underscoring the narrative with dissonant choral singing and organ scoring that sets your teeth on edge.
Velvet-toned Jemma Redgrave and Franks are brilliantly matched as the couple tortured by supernatural omens, with Susie Blake completing the cast.
Perfect fireside listening for the long, dark winter nights.
