Fringe review: POLICE COPS THE MUSICAL, Edinburgh Festival Fringe

1985. USA. Jimmy Johnson joined the force to protect and serve (and avenge his sister's death), now he's partnered up with a renegade cop and leaned on by a racist Chief. Guns are loaded and the safety is off as Jimmy embarks on a journey to Mexico where ex-Police Cop Juanita Gonzalez awaits. What could possibly go wrong?

With a new score by Ben Adams (Eugenius! The Musical), there are some banging 80's style tunes and some seriously clever and funny choreography.

As well as creating the show, Zachary Hunt is Jimmy Johnson, the rookie cop; seriously funny and impressively agile. Tom Rowe plays Harrison, his veteran partner, who personifies the role with an abundance of charisma. Nathan Parkinson is the racist Chief, with his ability to change between characters considerably impressive.

Completing the cast are Melinda Orengo and Natassia Bustamante, both so endearing and kick-ass in all of the roles that they clock up.

The writing is very cliched, highlighting the flaws of the 1980's and the attitudes that came with them, which makes it just so hysterically funny (especially for those of us that lived through them).

Physical comedy, great music and great moves, a cheesy storyline, what more could you possibly want? We can't recommend this show enough, Besties!

So good, it's criminal!

***** Five stars
