Full casting announced for Edward Albee's WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF? at Curve

Full casting has today been announced for the new Made at Curve production of Edward Albee’s WHO’S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF?, which will be staged in Curve’s Studio Theatre from 18 October-8 November.

Joining the previously announced BAFTA winner and Golden Globe nominee Cathy Tyson as Martha will be Patrick Robinson (Casualty, BBC) as George, Martha’s disillusioned husband, in his Curve debut.

Taking on the roles of Nick and Honey, the young couple drawn into George and Martha’s dysfunctional world, will be George Kemp (Bridgerton, Netflix), and Tilly Steele (Doctor Who, BBC).

Curve’s production of WHO’S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF? will be directed by Curve’s Associate Director Cara Nolan, with set and costume design by Amy Jane Cook, lighting by Jamie Platt, sound and composition by Jack Baxter, fight, intimacy and movement direction by Haruka Kuroda, and casting by Ginny Schiller.

Curve’s Chief Executive Chris Stafford and Artistic Director Nikolai Foster said: “This is a rare opportunity to see one of the great plays of the 20th century. Director Cara Nolan has assembled a superb cast, led by the electrifying Cathy Tyson and tremendous Patrick Robinson. Along with the equally brilliant Tilly Steele and George Kemp, we are looking forward to experiencing this magnificent play, brought to life - up close and personal in our intimate 330-seat theatre - by this first-rate cast.”

It’s 2am. Locked in a destructive cycle of love and self-loathing, history professor George and his wife Martha return home drunk from a party. As they draw naive young couple Nick and Honey into their bitter and warped world, what starts as a casual nightcap soon turns into a dangerous cocktail of truths and games.

Winner of five Tony Awards including Best Play, the 1966 film starring Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton won multiple awards, including the British Academy Award for Best Film. Widely regarded as Albee's most important work, the play is a witty, hugely entertaining, provocative and lacerating study of a marriage in crisis.

Truth or illusion - do you know the difference?
