Full cast announced to join Hiran Abeysekera in HAMLET at National Theatre

Full casting has been announced for National Theatre Deputy Artistic Director Robert Hastie’s sharp, stylish and darkly funny reimagining of Hamlet, which plays in the Lyttelton theatre from 25 September-22 November.

As previously announced, Olivier Award-winner Hiran Abeysekera will make his highly anticipated return to the National Theatre to play the famed eponymous role in this fearless, contemporary take on Shakespeare’s famous tragedy.

Joining Abeysekera in the cast will be Joe Bolland as Guildenstern, Phil Cheadle as Marcellus, Ayesha Dharker as Gertrude, Ryan Ellsworth as Ghost, Tom Glenister as Laertes, Mary Higgins as Osric, Liz Jadav as Nurse, Kiren Kebaili-Dwyer as Fortinbras, Hari Mackinnon as Rosencrantz, Francesca Mills as Ophelia, Sophia Papadopolous as Cornelius, Alistair Petrie as Claudius, Siobhán Redmond as First Player, Seb Slade as Francisco, Geoffrey Streatfeild as Polonius, Noel White as Bernardo, and Tessa Wong as Horatio.

The play’s the thing.

Something is rotten in the state of Denmark. Are you watching closely?

Trapped between duty and doubt, surrounded by power and privilege, young Prince Hamlet dares to ask the ultimate question – you know the one.

Director Rob Hastie is joined in the creative team by set and costume designer Ben Stones, lighting designer Jessica Hung Han Yun, sound designer Alexandra Faye Braithwaite, composer Richard Taylor, movement director Ira Mandela Siobhan, fight director Kate Waters, and casting directors Alastair Coomer CDG and Martin Poile CDG.
