Fringe review: ALAN DAVIES: THINK AHEAD, Gilded Balloon
By the time Alan Davies had finished his last set of this year's Fringe, we felt like we had been in therapy all day. Not quite what we expect from a visit to Edinburgh for comedy and theatre!
After The Spy Goes Into Rehab portraying Bond in therapy sessions and Bonding with the performer revealing his relationship with his parents by comparison to Bond actors, we were surprised that Alan Davies used his comedy slot to discuss his worries about growing old, his abuse by his Father, the death of his mother, and erectile dysfunction. His funniest routine was a description of having a silent enlarged prostate investigation by his Doctor.
We hope he feels better after the sessions but for someone with as much stand up experience as he has (he first appeared in 1986), we expected something funnier and a slicker, better constructed routine like what we saw from Hal Cruttenden the day before.
We were left with the impression that he was as glad his run was over as we were that the session had finished.
