The Old Vic has announced that Matthew Warchus’ much-loved, Tony Award-winning A Christmas Carol will return to the venue from 12 November 2026 – 9 January 2027, marking its tenth consecutive year.

Over the last decade this production, adapted by Jack Thorne, has played to almost 500,000 people in London, and hundreds of thousands more in America and Australia. A Christmas Carol has also been streamed to 43,227 homes across the globe as part of OLD VIC: IN CAMERA in 2020 and 1053 Care Homes through our free IN CAMERA: PLAYBACK screenings. With each year proving to be more popular than the last, and the show continuing to attract audiences new and returning, it is a testament to the impact it has on all those who experience it, whether in our iconic auditorium or online.

The Old Vic’s Artistic Director and Director of A Christmas Carol, Matthew Warchus, said: “What a great pleasure to be announcing the tenth year of A Christmas Carol. When I approached Jack Thorne a decade ago to adapt this much-loved story, set in the very borough that is home to The Old Vic, I knew that it had the potential to be something special but the international impact it now enjoys could never have been anticipated.

“Ten years on, the show has been seen by hundreds of thousands of people both in London and across the globe and has raised over £2.2million for food deprivation charities. Each year, however, it may surprise people to know that the majority of our audience is seeing it for the first time. For many, indeed, it is their first ever trip to the theatre. Year on year the casts, crews, musicians and creative teams at The Old Vic, and beyond, work passionately to serve this treasured new audience and bring them a show which is as fresh, and full of this great story’s power and joy, as it always has been. Whether you are booking to see this A Christmas Carol for the first time or tenth, we are honoured and excited to deliver another truly unforgettable festive treat.”

Since A Christmas Carol opened in 2017, The Old Vic has held collections throughout the run to raise money for different charities focused on poverty and food deprivation. Audiences of the 2025/26 production of A Christmas Carol raised £215,596 for food distribution charity, Feeding Britain. This brought the total raised over the last nine years to an astonishing £2.2million globally.

Further details, including casting, are still to be announced.

Tickets for the 2026 production go on general sale on Thursday (26 Feb) at 12pm noon here.
