Songs from musical We Live In Cairo to feature on Daniel and Patrick Lazour’s forthcoming album

Songwriter brothers Daniel and Patrick Lazour have released the second single from their forthcoming album Flap My Wings: Songs from We Live in Cairo, featuring songs from the duo’s award-winning musical We Live In Cairo.

The musical won the Richard Rodgers award during its run at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, Massachusetts in Spring 2019.

Their second single ‘Genealogy of Revolution’ has been covered by Hamed Sinno: indie icon, queer rights activist and lead singer of Mashrou’ Leila. Their first single and title album track ‘Flap My Wings’, performed by the brothers, was released in December. Both tracks are available to download on iTunes and Spotify.

The full album will be released on 25 January 2021, which marks the tenth anniversary of the Tahrir Square protests that began the Egyptian Revolution in 2011.

The Lazour brothers said: “When we can’t come together as normal, how else might we connect to imagine a world different from our own? It is our hope that this album helps to create community through music in an increasingly fractured society.”

The remotely recording album features cast members from the musical, along with major Arab activist-songwriters including Ramy Essam, Emel Mathlouthi, Rotana, Hadi Eldebeck, Hamed Sinno, Naseem Alatrash, and the brothers themselves.
