Fringe review: THE LAST FLAPPER, Bella Sauvage - Edinburgh Festival Fringe

Alone in a mental hospital, Zelda Fitzgerald, icon of the jazz age, asks the questions her doctor should have. Did F Scott steal her words? Did he claim she was insane just to gain his freedom? Can a woman ever decide her own fate? In this candid one woman show, Zelda gets to tell her story, finally!

Directed by Lydia Mackay and performed by Catherine DuBord, this is the story of a woman taking back her power. Even if she is locked away in a hospital, she can still speak her truth.

DuBord embodies the character. We are instantly transported to the 1930's and all that means for a woman in those times. Has she been shut away for her own safety or merely because she dares to live her life?

An interesting script; we have part history, part dramatical interpretation, but 100% entertainment.

Powerful, insightful and femininely charged.

**** Four stars
