Review: RUNESICAL, Gigglemug Theatre - Online

Based on the popular online game RuneScape, RuneSical is a musical production with a difference. The audience get to decide how the quest plays out. You don’t need to be an experienced game player to know how this works, and there’s a friendly wizard to guide you through it.

Written and directed by Alex Prescott and Sam Cochrane, with musical direction by Amy Hsu, it’s a funny script, poking light hearted fun at the world of online gaming, user names and in game character twists with a pleasantly toe-tapping musical score.

Each section of the story moves along well and as the audience decides what happens next by their choices, we see the story play out in the way we want it to. You can even watch it more than once and get a different production!

The costumes and props set the mood well and encompass the atmosphere of the show, proving that you don’t need a large budget to successfully play out a good idea.

The cast includes musician actors, who show off their talents well and add a nice angle to the story. It combines the medieval fantasy realm with magic spells and talking cats, sword fights and potions, and it’s all for the audience to decide.

So if you’re looking for a musical with a difference that can take any twist and turn you desire, then tune in and watch RuneSical online now.
