Q&A: Actress Rebecca Lock on playing Caz in HERE & NOW - THE STEPS MUSICAL

It's time to begin, now count it in - the Steps musical Here & Now is starting its UK and Ireland tour at the end of the summer! We spoke to Rebecca Lock about how it feels to be taking on the lead role in this hilarious and heartwarming new musical.

Here & Now looks like such a fun musical! Can you tell us a little about the story?

Here & Now IS a very fun show!! The story is a real rollercoaster for my character Caz… the show is about four friends finding their summer of love and of course it doesn’t exactly go to plan!!

What drew you to the character of Caz?

Caz is a wonderful character and has quite a journey through this show dealing with real highs of love and laughter but also dealing with loss and life changing circumstances.. no spoilers! Plus I get to sing some bangers!

Were you a fan of Steps’ music in the 90s/00s?

I’m the same age as Steps so I feel like I’ve grown up with them. They were my guilty pleasure for sure!

Will we see some of Steps’ iconic dance moves featured in the musical?

Iconic dance moves? Of course! The show is full of little Easter eggs… so keep your eyes open!

Which scene in the show is the most fun to perform?

All the scenes are juicy and the most fun… ‘Summer of Love’ is hectic and nearly kills me but it's a very fun, high, camp number!

How do you hope audiences feel after leaving Here & Now?

Having witnessed audience reactions in Birmingham, I know that everyone leaves on a high and literally will be dancing home…

Here & Now opens at Aylesbury Waterside Theatre on 29 August before continuing its tour around the UK until May 2026, with Lock performing until November 2025.
