Paul Taylor-Mills takes iconic musicals to Edinburgh Fringe

West End producer Paul Taylor-Mills will take on the Edinburgh Fringe this year with a fantastic number of iconic musicals, from tap-dancing lambs to culinary chaos!

Come Dine With Me - The Musical will play at Underbelly (Cowbarn) from 31 July – 26 August. Televising the good, the bad and the downright ugly when it comes to culinary competitiveness and unchecked hospitality, Come Dine with Me has the perfect ingredients for an irreverent musical with big laughs and a big heart.

This new musical, written by Sam Norman and Aaron King, highlights the chaos that follows clashing chef personalities, and looks beyond the meltdowns, the sore losers and stroppy winners to delve deeper behind the scenes.

Based on the Multistory Media TV format, commissioned by Channel 4, Come Dine With Me: The Musical follows a film crew enter yet another weekly contest. Having a fictional episode play out before us, the show is unafraid to uncover the truth behind the beloved show. Cocreated by TV producers Nell Butler and Genevieve Welch, who both directly worked on Come Dine With Me, this outlandish musical is a true insight into the heart – and hungry stomachs – of the show.

Despite the raucous drama that comes with every three-course meal, Come Dine With Me: The Musical is about the magic of human connection. Through fly-on-the-wall glimpses into the every-day lives of strangers and people coming together (with the odd tantrum), it is a show that taps into the nosey instincts of audiences, whether they’re coach potatoes or theatregoers.

Writer Sam Norman said: “Prepare your tastebuds! We couldn’t be more excited to serve up a feast of laughter, song, and culinary chaos. Join us for a deliciously entertaining musical that’ll leave you craving seconds!”

Taylor-Mills is also producing SILENCE! The Musical at Underbelly (Cowbarn) from 31 July – 26 August. The notorious unauthorised parody of Academy Award-winning film The Silence of The Lambs, brings its singing serial killers, tap-dancing lambs, and gleefully unstoppable bad taste to Edinburgh.

As a rookie FBI agent matches with the brilliant but insane Dr. Hannibal Lecter in an intense serial killer chase, the most horrific of subjects are paired with a chorus of singing lambs narrating the action and breaking out into cheerful show tunes with unprintable song titles.

Originally premiering in 2005 off-Broadway, SILENCE! combines whip-smart dialogue, shocking songs, and over-the-top performances in a parody that’s popular with seasoned fans of the film and FBI rookies alike. Spinning the horror genre to include the absurd, SILENCE! The Musical will have audiences laughing in the face of danger. One most definitely for the adults, SILENCE! is the perfect final showstopper for a day of theatre at Fringe.

With an on-stage ensemble of 10, SILENCE! comes to Edinburgh Fringe with some of the original creators behind it, including the outstanding director-choreographer Christopher Gattelli and designer Scott Pask, both Tony award-winning.

Christopher Gattelli said: “I’m beyond excited to participate in the legendary Edinburgh Fringe – SILENCE! The Musical! was created with the Fringe in mind. Spoofing the growing movie turned musical genre, a group of artists thought they’d get ahead of the curve and turn their favourite film into a musical, submit it to The Fringe, and luckily got accepted. So they packed up their set, props, and costumes into a van and drove to the festival to share it with others. It’s been a complete joy, and some of the funniest rehearsals I’ve been in, creating the show with the premise in mind.

These shows play in addition to the previously reported I Wish You Well and My Son’s A Queer (But what can you do?).
