Producer Harvey Goldsmith has announced plans for a new immersive production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Starlight Express.

In a recent interview, he said that before the pandemic hit, there were plans to build a StageAround ™ theatre at the NEC in Birmingham, featuring groundbreaking staging technology. Replicating a performance space in Holland, the audience sit in a 360-degree rotating auditorium that turns from set to set, surrounded by projection panels to create a fully immersive experience. Goldsmith said that there are still plans for this to happen as soon as performance restrictions lift.

A child’s train set magically comes to life and the various engines compete to become the “Fastest – engine in the World”! The underdog, Rusty the Steam train, has little chance until he is inspired by the legend of the “Starlight Express” and ultimately defeats his arch-rivals Greaseball and Electra before going on to win the hand of the lovely first class coach, Pearl.

Well, this sounds incredible, Besties! Let’s hope it happens.
