Music Theatre International have released the performance rights for MAMMA MIA! to schools and university groups throughout the UK and Ireland, marking the first such opportunity since the musical’s record-breaking West End premiere over 27 years ago.
This landmark release marks a major milestone for one of the world's most successful musicals, opening the door for thousands of young performers to bring Catherine Johnson's original and irresistible story of love, family and friendship to their own stages.
Since opening in London's West End in 1999, MAMMA MIA! has become a cultural institution, inspiring generations of theatre-makers and audiences alike. The release of school performance rights reflects the show's enduring popularity and its ability to bring communities together through music, storytelling and live performance.
Creator and Producer of MAMMA MIA!, Judy Craymer, said: “I’m thrilled that MAMMA MIA! is now available to be staged by schools and universities across the UK and Ireland. Theatre brings young people together, builds confidence and unlocks creativity, with every production offering opportunity to discover talent both on stage and behind the scenes. I hope this inspires more young people to dream big, embrace the joy of live performance and see a future for themselves in the creative industries. I can’t wait to see the imagination, energy, and passion they bring to MAMMA MIA!”
