Lead casting announced for FIREBRAND: A NEW QUEER MUSICAL

Initial casting has been confirmed for the workshop of Firebrand: A New Queer Musical by Merilee Ettia and Robbie Hébert, which comes to Camden Fringe this summer.

Starring as bisexual swordfighter Julie d’Aubigny is Irish actor-musician Lara Smyth (professional theatre debut), alongside Caitlyn Calfas (In the Heights, Moonlight Stage Productions) as lesbian modiste Cecilia Bortigali.

Firebrand is a new queer musical about an old queer struggle, between living authentically and the safety of conforming. Inspired by true events, it follows Julie as she arrives at the court of Versailles to find an unexpected romance and an unlikely community.

Lara Smyth said: “It’s incredibly exciting…queer storytelling is something I’m deeply passionate about. I believe these stories deserve to be celebrated and brought into mainstream media”.

This heartfelt show is perfect for fans of Fun Home, La Cage Aux Folles, and Bridgerton. The public workshop will take place from 17-19 August as part of Camden Fringe.
