‘Insta vs reality’ in a pop-MT crossover EP by leo&hyde

Award-winning musical theatre writing duo, leo&hyde, are about to drop their latest concept EP – double life.

Following the single release of ‘rain before the rainbow’ with Jacob Fowler (Heathers, Cinderella, Little Mix: The Search), this EP brings together unique voices across two genres for five refreshing crossovers of musical theatre and pop to address the all-too-familiar ‘insta vs reality’ conflict through a lens of queer masculinity.

It features Luke Bayer (RENT), APW (Bat Out of Hell), KUSH (Everybody’s Talking About Jamie) Robin Simões da Silva (Bedknobs and Broomsticks), and Anthony Rickman (Wreck, BBC) in this EP of songs originally from leo&hyde’s award-winning musical, GUY.

”It’s a concept EP, really” says the EP’s producer and recording engineer Dan Mawson (joint finalist for upcoming Stiles and Drewe Best New Song 2022) “about the hardship of living dual identities, and empowerment that’s possible when you don’t let the world around you define your worth. As a gay man, the themes in this [double life] hit different.”

Though each song contains undertones of topics that disproportionately affect the queer community, such as sexual racism, body image, and mental health, these are also topics that are universally accessible beyond a queer perspective, making double life a must listen for internet-addicted lovers of pop and musical theatre.

double life is now available to pre-save ahead of its release on 22 November across most platforms here.
