Initial casting announced for world premiere of THE THIRD MAN – A NEW MUSICAL at Menier Chocolate Factory

As public booking opens, the Menier Chocolate Factory have announced initial casting for the world première of the new musical, The Third Man, which plays at the venue from 10 June-9 September.

Directed by Trevor Nunn, the cast includes Edward Baker-Duly (The Bridges of Madison County, Menier Chocolate Factory) as Calloway, Simon Bailey (Moulin Rouge!, West End) as Crabbit, Natalie Dunne (Works of Art, Turbine Theatre) as Anna, Derek Griffiths (The Mousetrap, West End) as The Porter, Jonathan Andrew Hume (Come From Away, West End) as Paine, Rachel Izen (Billy Elliot, Curve) as The Porter’s Wife, Gary Milner (Mamma Mia!, West End) as Kurtz, Harry Morrison (Half a Sixpence, Chichester Festival Theatre) as Popescu, Sam Underwood (One Day When We Were Young, Edinburgh Fringe) as Holly, and Alan Vicary (The Girl from the North Country, UK tour) as Dr Winkel.

Graham Greene’s brilliant story – which was made into a landmark film and published as a novella – now comes to the stage in new musical written by Christopher Hampton with music by George Fenton, and lyrics by Don Black. Post-war Vienna is the setting as Holly Martins arrives at the invitation of his friend and hero, Harry Lime, only to discover that Harry has been killed in a car accident.  But nothing that he is told about what happened makes any sense.  The tension mounts as Holly enters the world of black marketeers and military bureaucracy, culminating in a chase through the Viennese sewers, as Holly tries to discover what happened to Harry…and who is the third man?  This world premiere will keep audiences on the edge of their seats as they are immersed into the world of The Third Man.

The production has set and costume design by Paul Farnsworth, lighting by Emma Chapman, sound by Gregory Clarke, orchestrations by Jason Carr, musical supervision and direction by Tamara Saringer, and movement and choreography by Rebecca Howell.

Full casting for The Third Man will be announced shortly.
