GOING APE! to open at the Union Theatre

Andrew Corbet Burcher’s Going Ape! will open at the Union Theatre in June 2021.

Originally a Dance Attic Studios in-house production, the show challenges religion and science by bringing together various ‘first’ humans.

Adam and Eve are awaiting the arrival of their eldest son Cain for a short visit to break up his homeless wandering life, a sentence imposed upon him for killing his brother Abel. With him he brings a woman who he has met in Africa, a Australopithecus Afarensis the earliest known woman.  As she meets Cain’s family is soon becomes clear that they are destined to put on the first show on earth.

Melanie La Barrie will lead the cast as Eve, the former DJ and Calypso singer from Trinidad is perhaps best known for her roles in EastEnders and Casualty. Joining La Barrie as Adam will be Sion Lloyd (The Phantom of the Opera, Titanic).

Completing the cast will be Anabel Kutay (The McOnie Company; New Adventures Company) as Genevieve, Gabriel Vick  (Les Miserables) as Cain, Henry Collie (Lancaster Skies) as Seth and Laura Tyrer (9 to 5 UK Tour) as Lucy.

Going Ape! will be directed by Evan Ensign an American director who has substantial Broadway and West End credits to his name including Rent the US Tour and resident director of The Phantom of the Opera in the West End in 2016-17.

Opening on 29 June, the show will run until 10 July with a run time of 80 minutes.
