Further workshops announced for new musical MONA LOSER at Southwark Playhouse
The team behind the critically acclaimed and eight-time Tony Award-nominated production of Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York) will come together to present the latest workshop performances of Mona Loser, a new musical with an original pop score by British writing duo Kit Buchan and Jim Barne, at Southwark Playhouse Borough from 2-5 September.
Directed by Tony-nominee Tim Jackson and produced by Tim Johanson Productions, with Birmingham Hippodrome, Mona Loser is a contemporary musical set in the music industry about viral fame, fakery and identity, drawing inspiration from Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein and the modern monsters created both on and offline.
Following workshops at Southwark Playhouse Borough (The Little auditorium) in 2025 and Birmingham Hippodrome earlier this year, this next of workshops for Mona Loser will offer audiences another opportunity to be some of the first to get a glimpse at this new musical-in-development. These workshops marked the beginning of the creation and development process which is supported by Birmingham Hippodrome’s New Musical Theatre Department, a department dedicated to championing original British musical theatre.
Writers Kit Buchan and Jim Barne said: “We're thrilled to be back at Southwark Playhouse, south London's beloved shipyard of new musicals, for our third public workshop of Mona Loser. Each time we do this, the audience teaches us something new, and their insights have already been invaluable. We very much hope you can make it; we can’t wait to see what this next chapter brings."
