Further casting and broadcast date revealed for National Theatre’s Romeo & Juliet
The National Theatre has today released further casting and the broadcast date for its Covid-compliant filmed version of Romeo and Juliet
Led by Josh O’Connor and Jessie Buckley, the tragedy will be directed by Simon Godwin and has been adapted for the screen by Emily Burns.
Joining O’Connor and Buckley will be Adrian Lester (Life, Hustle) playing the Prince, Tamsin Grieg (Friday Night Dinner, Much Ado About Nothing) as Lady Capulet and Colin Tierney as Lord Montague.
Further casting includes; Lloyd Hutchinson as Lord Capulet, Ella Dacres as Peta, Fisayo Akinade as Mercutio, Deborah Findlay as the Nurse, Lucian Msamati as the Friar, Shubham Saraf as Benvolio, David Judge as Tybalt, Alex Mugnaioni as Paris and Ellis Howard as Sampson.
Sky Arts have confirmed that they will broadcast the piece on Easter Sunday (4 April) at 9pm in the UK, with PBS showing it on Friday 23 April at 9pm in the US. Sky Arts is a free-to-air channel and is available on Freeview channel 11 so those without Sky can still enjoy it.
Supporting the production creatively is Director of Photography Tim Sidell, Production and Costume Designer Soutra Gilmour and Movement Directors Jonathan Goddard and Shelley Maxwell. The fight scenes will be directed by Kate Waters, with composition by Michael Bruce.
