Full casting announced for POP OFF, MICHELANGELO! at Underbelly Boulevard Soho

Full casting has been announced for Dylan MarcAurele’s Pop Off, Michelangelo!, which plays at Underbelly Boulevard Soho from 17 May-22 June.

Directed by Joe McNeice, Max Eade and Aidan MacColl will reprise their roles as Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci respectively, following runs at Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2024 and concert performances at The Other Palace. The company is completed by Kurran Dhand (Rishi Sunak’s Doing a Musical, Waterloo East Theatre) as Salai, Aoife Haakenson (SIX, UK & International Tour) as Mother, Sev Keoshgerian (I Wish My Life Were Like a Musical, UK tour) as Italian Chef, Michael Marouli (Ru Paul’s Drag Race UK) as Pope, and Laura Sillett (Barnum, Watermill Theatre) as Savonarola, with understudy Natalia Brown and understudy/dance captain Conn McGirr.

Joe McNeice said: “I couldn’t be more excited to announce the full cast for POP OFF, MICHELANGELO! as we prepare for our exciting launch at Underbelly Boulevard Soho. With the return of our two brilliant leads and an exceptional supporting cast, this production is set to bring an irrepressible energy and spark to the stage. After a triumphant season at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and memorable concert performances, it’s a joy to see this fantastic team come together for its next chapter. The talent, the camp, and the fierce rivalry of this musical comedy are only going to get bigger, bolder, and more spectacular in Soho. I can’t wait for audiences to experience this journey through Renaissance Italy—it's going to be a wild, unforgettable ride!"

POP OFF, MICHELANGELO! tells the story of best-pals-turned-bitter-rivals Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci. A bloodthirsty friar is on the hunt for homosexuals in Renaissance Italy at the exact moment when childhood friends Mike and Leo realise they both like boys. Terrified, they devise a foolproof plan to gain God's forgiveness: they simply need to become the greatest religious artists of all time. Can Michelangelo gaslight, gatekeep, and girlboss his way to the Vatican? Will Leonardo ever shut up about his helicopter? Featuring an original electropop score as infectious as the bubonic plague, POP OFF, MICHELANGELO! is an unhinged adventure that you won't want to miss.

The musical features choreography by Sundeep Saini, musical supervision and orchestrations by Aron Sood, costumes by Emily Bestow, video design by PJ McEvoy, lighting by Adam King, sound by Ed Lewis, and casting by Sarah-Jane Price.
