Donmar Warehouse announces casting for world premiere of TROUBLE IN BUTETOWN

Casting has been announced for Diana Nneka Atuona’s Trouble in Butetown, which runs at the Donmar Warehouse from 10 February-25 March 2023.

Tinuke Craig directs Samuel Adewunmi (professional stage debut) as Nate, Rita Bernard-Shaw (professional stage debut) as Connie, Ifan Huw Dafydd (Under Milk Wood, National Theatre/UK tour/Theatr Clwyd) as Patsy, Zaqi Ismail (10 Nights, Bush Theatre) as Dullah, Gareth Kennerley (Othello, National Theatre) as Detective Hughes, Bethan Mary-James (The Meaning of Zong, Bristol Old Vic) as Peggy, Sarah Parish (Way Upstream, Chichester Festival Theatre) as Gwyneth and Zephryn Taitte (Nora: A Doll’s House, Young Vic) as Norman.

In her illegal boarding house in Butetown, Cardiff, Gwyneth Mbanefo toils tirelessly to keep afloat.

It’s a port town during the war; home to souls from every corner of the globe.  When Nate, an African American GI, escapes his barracks and discovers this new world without segregation, can he find safe harbour? And with danger on every corner, whom can he trust?

The production is designed by Peter McKintosh, with lighting by Oliver Fenwick, sound by Emma Laxton, composition by Clement Ishmael, movement direction by Ingrid Mackinnon, and casting by Anna Cooper CDG.
