Details of proposed new set design for THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA revealed

Phantom set design

Further details have been released about the new set design of the West End production of The Phantom of the Opera, for when the theatre is permitted to reopen.

The plan aims to blur the “boundary between stage and auditorium” with the new design covering the proscenium and parts of the boxes to enhance the audience’s connection to the show.

The venue's original Scagliola proscenium is set to be restored (rather than the false proscenium that sat on top of it) by repairing brickwork, removing black paint and reinstating a timber superstructure. This is expected to last eight weeks.

The details have come to light in a planning application that has been submitted by the owner of Her Majesty’s Theatre, LW Theatres, to Westminster City Council.

The work forms part of a multimillion-pound investment across buildings owned by LW Theatres, including Theatre Royal Drury Lane.

A condition of the proposed plans is that the works to the building must be photographed and documented.

It will be really interesting to see the final product, Besties!
