Casting announced for PIPPIN at Upstairs at the Gatehouse
Full casting has been announced for PIPPIN, Stephen Schwartz and Roger O. Hirson’s Tony Award-winning musical, coming to Upstairs at the Gatehouse from 11 December - 11 January in a dazzling new production.
At the centre of the story is Lewis Edgar (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Oliver!, Les Misérables, West End) as Pippin, the young prince searching for his place in the world. Emily Friberg returns to the Gatehouse as the enigmatic Leading Player following her standout performance in Road Show.
They are joined by Clare Brice (Wicked: For Good, Universal) as Berthe, Helena Caldas (The Phantom of the Opera - in Concert, Campo Pequeno) as Fastrada, Oliver Wood (Something Rotten!, Theatre Royal Drury Lane) as King Charlemagne, and Mia Quimpo making her professional debut as Catherine.
Completing the company are ensemble members George Kipa (Aladdin and the Legion of Genies, Millfield Theatre), Imogen Amos (Little Dancer, Theatre Royal Drury Lane), and Daniel North, also making his professional debut.
A troupe of travelling performers converges to tell the tale of a young prince’s pursuit of purpose. Hypnotised by the glitz and glamour, Pippin chases glory in battle, temptation in love, and power on the throne only to discover that the brighter the bulbs, the darker the shadows. Broadway meets Bognor Regis in this reimagining of Stephen Schwartz’s (Wicked, Godspell) cult classic.
This production will be directed and choreographed by Amanda Noar, with musical direction by Harry Style, and set and costume design by Hannah Danson.
