Casting announced for OUR MAN IN HAVANA at Theatre Royal Windsor and UK tour

Theatre Royal Windsor has announced star casting for Clive Francis’ adaptation of Graham Greene’s Our Man in Havana, which plays at the Windsor venue from 1-11 July before embarking on a UK tour.

Jack Ashton (Call The Midwife, BBC) will star as Wormold, with Bob Barrett (Holby City, BBC) as Voice 2, Leon Ockenden (Waterloo Road, BBC) as Voice 3, and Jodie Steele (Heathers The Musical, West End/Off Broadway) as Voice 4 - together, they play over 30 characters to bring 1950s Havana vividly to life.

Our Man in Havana, adapted by Clive Francis from Graham Greene’s novel, follows the hilarious exploits of James Wormold, a British vacuum cleaner salesman in pre-revolutionary Havana, Cuba.

Struggling financially to support his spoiled daughter, Wormold is recruited by MI6 agent Hawthorne to be a spy. Lacking any actual spy skills or intentions, Wormold fabricates an entire network of fictional agents and reports, using his imagination and local bar conversations.

His absurd reports, claiming to depict secret weapons, are taken seriously by MI6, leading to real-world consequences as the Cuban government grows suspicious.

A wonderfully funny and fast-moving romp, the production is directed by Philip Wilson, with set and costume design by Julie Godfrey, lighting by Nick Richings, and sound by Andy Graham.

After its opening run in Windsor, the production will tour to Salisbury, Oxford, Bath, Guildford, Cheltenham, Malvern, and Cambridge.

Theatre Director and Head of Venues for Bill Kenwright Ltd, Anne-Marie Woodley said, “This play is an absolute gem; witty, mischievous, and thoroughly entertaining. At a time when the world feels particularly heavy, it offers the kind of joyful escapism audiences are longing for. Philip and the company have created a production that reminds us how brilliantly theatre can lift our spirits and shine a light on the absurdities of life. In times like these, a dash of theatrical mischief isn’t just welcome... it feels essential.”
