Casting announced for world premiere of new musical MAYFLIES

York Theatre Royal has announced casting for the premiere of new musical Mayflies, which runs at the venue from 28 April-13 May.

Written by award-winning composer, lyricist and songwriter and resident artist at the theatre, Gus Gowland, it tells the story of the romantic relationship between May and Fly. After swiping right, left, up and down across various dating apps, May and Fly match. Beginning with a conversation, over time their romance grows into something quite real and special, and then they meet…

Exploring the different versions of themselves that people become during relationships and how it can all too soon come crashing down around them.

Three actors will alternate the roles of May and Fly, with each pairing providing a unique perspective on the relationships within this contemporary love story.

Mayflies is set to star Nuno Queimado (Hamilton, West End), Rumi Sutton, (Heathers, West End/UK tour) and Emma Thornett (Bedknobs and Broomsticks, UK tour).

With direction by Tania Azevedo, design by TK Hay and musical direction, arrangements and orchestrations by Joseph Church, Gowland describes the musical as “…the challenge of writing something that could be played by pretty much anyone, regardless of age, race, gender, sexuality.”
