Cast announced for workshop day of new musical EVERY 90 MINUTES: A SUICIDE PREVENTION MUSICAL
Today, Harry Butters and Duncan Burt of ‘Butters & Burt Musicals LTD’ are happy to announce the complete cast for the upcoming workshop day of their inaugural project Every 90 Minutes: A Suicide Prevention Musical.
On average, every ninety minutes in the United Kingdom a man takes his own life. That’s fifteen men lost to suicide every day. It is the leading cause of death for men under 50 in the UK, and something needs to be done.
Every 90 Minutes: A Suicide Prevention Musical is a raw, introspective and abstract exploration into one singular man’s battle with depression and the questions regarding the decision he makes to end his own life.
Lost and betrayed by the thoughts in his head, Jake makes the decision to end his own life. However, when he finds himself stuck in the in-between of life and death, he is forced to look internally and question the choice he made and decide how he moves on from there.
The workshop cast is lead by Dalton Wood (He/Him) (Jersey Boys) as Jake and Laura Harrison (She/Her) (Wicked) as The Nurse.
They are joined by Nikita Johal (She/Her) (Now That’s What I Call A Musical) as Worth, Dora Gee (She/Her) (The Mad Ones) as Loathing, Cerys Burton (She/They) (Kinky Boots) as Doubt, Ollie Wray (He/Him) (Les Miserables) as Sabotage, and Joaquin Pedro Valdes (He/Him) (Heathers) as Imposter.
Harry Butters and Duncan Burt said: “The male mental health epidemic in this country is at a frightening level. As two queer men who have a personal history of mental health, we felt it was our duty, as best we could, to lend our voices to the conversation. We wanted to produce a piece of art that not only had the power to change a life but potentially help save one. We have been in conversation with the media advisory team at Samaritans throughout the writing process to ensure our work is representative of the people who have dealt with this subject matter, is sensitive to it, and above all helps to foster conversations about preventative care. We couldn’t be more pleased with our incredible cast, who have already embraced the show with such honour and care, and cannot wait to hear it on their voices.”
Every 90 Minutes: A Suicide Prevention Musical has music by Harry Butters and a book and lyrics by Duncan Burt.
‘Butters & Burt Musicals LTD’ were able to finance this day due to the selfless donations of the general public. They are currently in a bid to gain further funding to produce a full-length workshop of the musical. In the meantime, please consider donating, however small, to their GoFundMe page. Thank you.
‘Butters & Burt Musicals LTD’ would like to thank The Libra Theatre Cafe for providing a home for their workshop day.
