Birmingham Rep announce full cast for SWEENEY TODD: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

Birmingham Rep have announced full casting for their upcoming production of Stephen Sondheim’s musical masterpiece Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.‍ ‍

Directed by The Rep’s Artistic Director Joe Murphy and designed by award-winning designer Elin Steele, the production plays on The House stage between 4 July – 9 August.

As previously announced West End, Broadway and international musical theatre star Ramin Karimloo will play the title role of Sweeney Todd; award-winning radical entertainer Meow Meow will play the iconic part of Mrs. Lovett; and three-time Olivier Award-winning actor David Bedella plays Judge Turpin.

They are joined by Shem Omari James (Jesus Christ Superstar, UK tour) as Anthony Hope, Jo Stephenson (Les Misérables, World tour) as Johanna, Julius D’Silva (Educating Rita, Reading Rep) as Beadle, Jack Gibson (Four Play, King’s Head Theatre) as Tobias Ragg, Florence Andrews (Wicked, West End) as Beggar Woman, Silas Wyatt-Barke (The Prince of Egypt, West End) as Adolfo Pirelli, Emily Ivana Hawkins (Sweet Henry V, Birmingham Rep) as Ensemble, and Hadrian Delacey (The Phantom of the Opera, West End) as Ensemble.

Director Joe Murphy said: “I am delighted that we are now able to share with everyone the full cast of Sweeney Todd. Joining the previously announced Ramin Karimloo, Meow Meow and David Bedella, I am thrilled that we have assembled such a talented and experienced company. I cannot wait to get into the rehearsal room to work on Sondheim’s darkly comic musical masterpiece.”

Joining Joe Murphy and Elin Steele on the creative team are musical supervisor and orchestral reducer Dr John Rigby, lighting designer Rory Beaton, sound designer Kelsh Buckman-Drage, movement director Tinovimbanashe Sibanda, casting director Abby Galvin CDG, and musical director Leo Munby.
