Four-time Emmy-nominated writer Amber Ruffin has joined the team bringing the 1959 MGM film, Some Like It Hot, to Broadway in 2022.

Ruffin will co-write the book for the stage adaptation with Tony nominee Matthew Lopez, with the creative team also including composer Marc Shaiman, his co-lyricist Scott Wittman and director/choreographer Casey Nicholaw.

The musical will be based on Billy Wilder’s comedy film, which originally starred Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon and Marilyn Monroe. The story follows two musicians who are forced to go on the run after witnessing a mob hit. They then disguise themselves in drag to join an all-female big band.

Casting for the Broadway musical has not yet been announced.
